Amazon Affiliate Link Checker

Check the Amazon affiliate links on a site you control: the tag, the marketplace, the rel attribute and where each link resolves.

What it checks on an Amazon link

It reads the Amazon links on a site and reports each one. The marketplace comes from the host: amazon.co.uk is co.uk, amazon.com is com. The checker knows amazon.com, amazon.co.uk, amazon.de, amazon.ca, amazon.fr, amazon.it, amazon.es, amazon.co.jp, amazon.com.au, amazon.in, amazon.com.mx, amazon.com.br, amazon.nl, amazon.se and amazon.pl. The short hosts amzn.to and amzn.eu carry no tag or marketplace, so the row says to check the link after the redirect.

How it works

Four steps from a site to a report of its Amazon links:

  1. Add the site in the dashboard. That address is the one crawled.
  2. Prove the site is yours with a meta tag in the home page head, a file at the site root, or a DNS TXT record. Until then, the verification check is the only request to the host.
  3. Run the crawl. It reads robots.txt and the sitemap, then classifies each Amazon link on the pages it lists.
  4. Read the report or the CSV, one row per link.

The issues an Amazon link can report

The report uses these strings: missing tag, not your tag (the id it found), short link, check after redirect, missing rel=sponsored or nofollow, and marketplace co.uk differs from your default com. The last one means the link points at a marketplace other than the one set for the site.

What it does not do

It checks tags and links. It does not check stock, price or availability, it does not report earnings or commission, and it never reads an Amazon product page.

The crawl reads the static HTML your server sends and does not run JavaScript, so a link built in the browser is invisible to it. A page that will not serve to a stranger is named as failed.

Amazon affiliate link questions

Does it check whether a product is in stock?

No. It reads the link, not the product page, and it does not call the Amazon Associates API, so stock and price are not reported.

Which Amazon marketplaces are recognised?

Every host named above, read from the link, plus the amzn.to and amzn.eu short hosts. A different Amazon host is not an Amazon link.

What does not your tag mean?

The link carries an affiliate id and it is not one of the ids set for the site. The id found is printed in brackets.
